Uganda’s political arena is no stranger to power-hungry tyrants masking their selfish ambitions as patriotism. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is the epitome of such hypocrisy, parading himself as a liberator while he clings to power like a leech. As Museveni’s regime becomes synonymous with despotism, corruption, and nepotism, it stands in stark contrast to the noble legacy of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) under Milton Obote, the true architect of Uganda’s sovereignty and people’s empowerment.
Unlike Museveni’s pathetic attempts at rewriting history, Milton Obote was a visionary leader whose contributions remain unmatched in shaping Uganda’s identity. Museveni’s propaganda machine may try to erase Obote’s achievements, but the truth is that Obote remains the only Ugandan president who had a genuine mandate from the people. While Museveni’s regime thrives on rigged elections, voter suppression, and brutal crackdowns on dissent, Obote rose to power through democratic means, offering Ugandans a glimmer of hope for a just and united nation. Museveni’s so-called “revolution” pales in comparison to Obote’s real fight for independence, equality, and social justice.
Joseph Othieno, a true son of UPC, has reignited the spirit of Obote to remind Museveni that tyrants may rewrite history, but they cannot erase the truth. Othieno’s declaration that UPC stands as the vanguard of Uganda’s political salvation is a direct challenge to Museveni’s hollow legacy. Obote’s UPC laid the foundations for a democratic state, fought for free public services, and championed the rights of the oppressed. This vision for Uganda is the complete antithesis of Museveni’s autocracy, which has bled Uganda dry, plundering resources for his personal enrichment and that of his insatiable clan.
Museveni’s regime has systematically dismantled every democratic institution, turning the parliament into a puppet show and transforming the military into his private security outfit. This monstrous abuse of power is precisely what Obote warned against—a nation hijacked by a megalomaniac masquerading as a liberator. Obote’s spirit, which continues to haunt Museveni’s hollow leadership, symbolizes a resistance that will not bow to tyranny. Every desperate attempt by Museveni to suppress opposition only proves that Obote’s legacy is alive and more powerful than ever.
Othieno’s campaign for the UPC presidency and his resurrection of Obote’s ideals present a formidable threat to Museveni’s iron grip. The message is clear: UPC is larger than any individual, including Museveni, and its values of emancipation and public service resonate deeply with the new generation. As Museveni sinks further into the cesspool of corruption and oppression, UPC rises as the party of liberation, echoing Obote’s vision of a free Uganda that serves its people.
The rumors of a UPC-NRM merger, spearheaded by the opportunistic Jimmy Akena, are nothing but a pathetic ploy to taint UPC’s reputation. True UPC loyalists like Othieno will not allow Museveni to corrupt the party’s noble legacy. The haunting specter of Obote serves as a reminder that Museveni’s reign is a temporary glitch in Uganda’s history—a foul blemish that will soon be erased as UPC regains its rightful place.
The clock is ticking for Museveni, and no amount of force or propaganda can silence the enduring spirit of Obote that lives on in UPC. Uganda will one day shake off Museveni’s chains, and the legacy of Milton Obote will once again shine brightly, guiding the nation toward genuine freedom and prosperity.
