Baziro Songok, a police officer attached to Nakiloro Anti-Stock Theft Unit detach, Moroto district has been shot dead by a suspected Karimojong warrior.

The incident happened on Friday at around 8:15 pm when the deceased, together with two teenagers, Tamuhid Chemonges aged 18 years old, and Wadudu Mwanga aged 15 years all residents of Nakiloro were heading back to the barracks from Nakiloro trading centre.

The suspect only identified as Apule, a resident of Nakiloro village was also returning home when he met with the trio. Michael Longole, Mt Moroto Regional police spokesperson said that Apule who was armed, later ordered the three to move towards the bush before shooting Songok.

Longole added that the two boys managed to restrain the warrior and disarmed him. Apule was yesterday Saturday discovered also dead in the bush during an operation by the joint security forces. He suspected that the warrior could have succumbed to injuries he sustained during the scuffle.

“A joint force of ASTU and UPDF led by officer in charge Nakiloro searched for PC Songok and found that he was shot in the chest by the warrior and he was rushed to UPDF health facility at 3rd Div. headquarters for medical attention where he was pronounced dead,” Longole explained.
