Three Sub-counties of Unyama, Awach and Paicho in Gulu District are set to benefit from the registration of a customary certificate of land ownership.

The exercise is being done by the Government through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

According to Hon. Vicky Atim, the Gulu District LC5 Vice Chairperson, this exercise will help in reducing the number of Land Conflicts in Gulu, which has become very rampant.

Ms. Atim added that in Unyama Sub-County, the Physical Plan has already been developed by the Ministry of Lands, adding that People should embrace this free Land registration and titling so as to put their Land for proper development.

Rwot Otinga Otto Yai, the deputy Paramount Chief of Acholi, said that one of the reasons for the escalating land conflict in Acholi is the illegal agreement between LC ones, the buyers and sellers of Land.

According to Ms. Sheila Naturinda, the Communication Specialist with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, this exercise started two weeks ago with sensitization of local leaders in the Acholi Sub-region.

Ms. Naturinda added that this exercise of land registration is free, adding that they are also holding training for district technocrats like Sub-County and Parish Chiefs, before embarking on to start registration and titling next week.

She added that they will also extend the exercise to all the 8 districts in the Acholi Sub-region, adding that it is a voluntary exercise and Community members will only pay Shs 10, 000 for each piece of Land.
