Equatorial Guinea’s Ambassador to Uganda, Carmelo Micha, has conveyed his government’s keen interest in exploring potential areas of collaboration with Uganda, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchange. This sentiment was expressed during Micha’s meeting with Uganda’s Minister of State for International Affairs, Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, held in Kampala on Tuesday.
The meeting took place following the recent Non-Aligned Movement Summit hosted in Kampala in January. Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, in a statement, noted that the two officials “agreed to explore concrete initiatives aimed at deepening bilateral relations and maximizing the socio-economic benefits for their respective peoples.”
The statement further emphasized the significance of people-to-people contacts, educational exchanges, and capacity-building programs in fostering a robust partnership between Uganda and Equatorial Guinea.
Uganda and Equatorial Guinea already have collaborations in the areas of oil and gas, trade, and culture. Equatorial Guinea, a significant oil producer since 1996, currently stands as the third-largest oil producer in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an average daily output of 340,000 barrels.
In the past year, Uganda exported 5,400 cartons of Armed Forces Uniforms and accessories, manufactured by Southern Range Nyanza Ltd (Nytil) in Jinja, to Equatorial Guinea. Minister Oryem and Ambassador Micha affirmed the commitment of both nations to strengthen their diplomatic ties and explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration across various sectors.
