Luwero, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Education authorities in Luwero District have taken action against the unlicensed operation of the Luwero School for Clinical Officers. Led by Yusuf Kamulegeya, the Luwero District Inspector of Schools, the authorities delivered a closure notice dated February 5, 2024, to the institution’s administrators on Monday.
The notice, obtained by Uganda Radio Network, explicitly orders the administrators to immediately cease operations, with a warning that failure to comply will result in severe penalties. The closure directive stems from a communication received from Ketty Lamaro, the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Sports, instructing them to close the institution.
Yusuf Kamulegeya confirmed that they were acting on the directive from Ketty Lamaro after the Ministry of Education and Sports received information about the unauthorized operation of the institution. The closure follows an investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) into the operations of St. Denison Health Training Schools.
In a letter dated January 17, 2024, SHACU reported several irregularities at the institution, including the absence of necessary licenses. Subsequently, on January 31, 2024, Ketty Lamaro, in a letter to the proprietor, officially suspended the operations of the school in question. The closure notice now serves as a formal step to enforce the suspension and bring an end to the unauthorized activities of the Luwero School for Clinical Officers.
