LONDON | TASS | The heir to the British throne, Prince William of Wales, is reportedly set to take over some of King Charles III’s public duties as his father undergoes outpatient treatment for cancer, according to The Times of London.
Initially intending to take a brief break to care for his wife, Princess Kate of Wales, following her abdominal surgery, Prince William is now compelled to resume his public duties earlier than planned. He will also assume additional responsibilities, substituting for the monarch at certain events.
Buckingham Palace stated that doctors have advised King Charles III to refrain from public duties during his outpatient treatment, though he will continue to manage state affairs and handle paperwork, including the signing of laws passed by Parliament.
The scheduled visits of King Charles III to Commonwealth members Australia and Canada, as well as his participation in the meeting of Commonwealth leaders in Samoa, are reportedly in doubt. Prince William is expected to attend an awards ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday and return to London the same evening for a fundraising gala for the London Air Ambulance, where he may deliver a speech. Buckingham Palace mentioned that Queen Camilla has no plans to alter her public engagement schedule during her husband’s medical treatment.
The Times speculates that during King Charles III’s treatment, the responsibilities will likely shift to other members of the royal family, primarily the queen and the heir to the throne, Prince William.
