Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Golf enthusiasts from different clubs across the country came together on Friday, contributing a total of sh80 million during a one-day tournament hosted at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala. The funds raised are designated for the benefit of the upcountry club Mbale.

Mbale Sports Club is currently engaged in a fundraising initiative to procure a tractor and a gang mower, essential equipment for the upkeep of their golf course. Joseph Okudi, the club’s captain, expressed gratitude and joy regarding the funds raised, stating, “We are grateful and happy to have raised this amount of money for the tractor and gang mower. Our target is 180 million, and so far, this is a good start for the club.”

A press release from the Uganda Golf Union (UGC) revealed that the Challengers team emerged as the overall winners in the one-day Mbale Club fundraiser event, accumulating 116 Stableford points. The team comprised Samson Agamile, Andrew Baguma, Yunus Bbale, and Dennis Kahindi.

In the individual category, Sarah Babirye Kityo secured the top position with an impressive 44 points. Tarzan Lubega claimed victory in Men’s Group A with 40 points. Joseph Nkurunziza, the Chairman of Jinja Club, emerged as the winner in Group B with 40 points, while Isaiah Tugumenawe clinched the top spot in Group C with 40 points, determined on count back.

Ladies Group A saw Sarah Nduhukire triumph with 38 points, and Charity Opolot secured the win in Group B with 39 points. Daniel Kalimuzo emerged as the seniors’ winner with a commendable score of 38 points.

Over the years, the Uganda Golf Union has successfully revitalized the 16-hole course, which had previously fallen victim to encroachment by land grabbers.
