The body of the 40-year-catechist from the Anglican Diocese of Kigezi, who has been missing for six days, was on Saturday found floating on River Rwabakazi.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman, identifies him as Living Aryatwijuka, 40, a catechist of Rubira Church of Uganda, was reported missing on Monday, January 15, 2024, after being seen leaving his home on his motorcycle at around 10 am.
Mate says that, after he was missing, the relatives and concerned residents initiated a search on Tuesday and later discovered his abandoned motorcycle, church books and a church money receipt along the Kabale-Mbarara road in Rubira village.
“As police, we registered a case of missing person on January 16, 2024, but unfortunately, his body was found lying in a river.“
He said that police visited the scene and the body was taken for postmortem to be conducted, adding that all efforts are being made to establish circumstances leading to the death.
“The disappearance case, which was earlier registered, has been substituted with murder.“
He called upon the public to help in the ongoing investigation.
