Police are holding Kampala-based lawyer, Sam Ahamya, 47, for shooting a guard dead at King’s Park Rugby Club at Kakajjo Zone in Bweyogerere Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
The shocking incident occurred on Saturday at around 10:00 pm.
“It is alleged that the suspect Ahamya Sam went to Kings Park Rugby Club at around midday (Saturday, 20/01/2024) together with his two children for leisure,” the police report seen by ChimpReports reads in part.
“He (Ahamya) was armed with a pistol which he left at the entrance with a police officer who was guarding there. At around 2200 hours, Ahamya got out to retrieve his weapon,” the report added.
“Upon retrieval, he (Ahamya) attempted to perform a Normal Safety Precautions (NSP) with the magazine still in the pistol. In the process he shot and injured one identified as Buruga Nekeon (now deceased).”
The development underscores the need to train legal arm holders with on proper handling of dangerous weapons.
King’s Park confirmed the incident, saying it was cooperating with the police during the course of the investigation.
Ahamya, who is a resident of Buziga Makindye Division in Kampala District, is now in custody at Kira Police Division.
Police say they have opened a case of murder by shooting under reference number 44/20/01/2024
The killer weapon was recovered and safely kept. It will be processed by scenes of crime officers for forensic analysis.
Buruga’s body has since been conveyed to Mulago National Referral Hospital.
The 37-year-old deceased watchman was a resident of Kireka Railways, Bweyogerere Division Kira Municipality Wakiso District
