The State Minister of Industry, David Bahati, has mourned the passing of the Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament, Cecilia Ogwal, describing her as the reservoir of political wisdom and a defender of multiparty dispensation.
Bahati, in a message posted on his social media page on Thursday morning, hours after the veteran opposition politician was declared dead in India, said the tragedy is a loss to the whole country.
“The passing on of our elder sister, Hon. Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, is a sad loss to the country,” said Bahati.
Adding: “Hon. Cecilia was a great lady who defended and enriched our multiparty political dispensation for a long time.”
Mrs. Ogwal strongly participated in the agitation and return to the multiparty system from the single-party-system, that was known as Movement. The Movement System was created by President Museveni to address sectarianism in politics, whereby the activities of all political parties were banned. A referendum was held in 2005 and Ugandans overwhelmingly voted to return the multiparty system.
David Bahati also referred to Cecilia, who served as a Parliamentarian since 1996, as a reservoir of political wisdom.
“She was reservoir of political wisdom. Madam Cecilia Ogwal was a great believer in the protection and defense of faith and family values,” he said.
The Ndorwa West legislator, who is also the Chairperson of Parliament’s Prayer Breakfast Fellowship, appreciated the role the deceased played in the payer group.
“She was committed and firm in her beliefs, with an unwavering spirit,” he said.
