Fresh details have emerged about how a woman died inside a bar at Janda zone, Namugongo, Kira Municipality.
The victim only identified as Bianca was allegedly hit with a blunt object that caused her death in the wee hours of Friday morning. Geoffrey Kuluba, a casual labourer claimed that three suspects including John Gido commonly known as Johnnie, Clement, and Bombom were all in love with the deceased.
“We often saw her with Johnnie but during the Christmas days, we saw two other men dating her. Trouble came when they all met at Janda bar and they all wanted to leave with her. But she failed to decide and they demanded to see her phone,” Kuluba said.
During a scuffle over who she was supposed to leave with her at 2 am, they got angry and hit her on the head. After the alleged murder, Johnnie, Clement, and Bombom quickly fled the scene leaving the bar operators stuck with the body.
Police from Namugongo Catholic and Anglican Shrines arrived at the scene and cordoned it off with the help of the soldiers deployed to beef security in the areas of Namugongo, Kyaliwajjala, Janda, Mbalwa, and Kira.
Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said Johnnie is a South Sudanese national. Owoyesigyire said all accounts from eyewitnesses say Bianca died out of a dispute arising from a phone inside a bar.
“There was an altercation arising from a phone and in the process, Bianca was hit and she died. The suspects Gido John aka Johnnie, Clement, and Bombom fled the scene. We have already arrested Gido and he is currently detained at Kira Division Police,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police have asked the public to remain vigilant and share any information that may be crucial to the ongoing investigation and the arrest of the suspects still at large. Bianca’s body was conveyed to Mulago hospital.
