Three children belonging to one family have been killed after being poisoned in a suspected act of revenge.
John Okodos, 9, Constantine Olupot, 6, and Ignatius Adodo, 4, – all children of Tom Omudu died on Thursday in Okudumo village, Mukongoro sub-county in Kumi district after allegedly being forced by the main suspect and neighbour, Hellen Adongo to eat sweet potatoes laced with poison. The children’s parents were away in the garden at the time of the incident.
According to the acting East Kyoga regional police spokesman, John Robert Tukei, Adongo has been carrying a vendetta against Omudu after she was forced to pay Shs 5 million belonging to a savings group.
According to the police, Adongo was a treasurer of the group when unknown people last year broke into her house and stole the locals’ savings. Omudu was arrested for theft after he was tracked by the police sniffer dog.
He was later released without paying the money, which allegedly angered Adongo, who vowed to harm Omudu or his family members.
A postmortem that was conducted by the police pathologist at Mbale regional referral hospital indicated that some substances suspected to be poison were found in the bodies of the three children. Adongo is currently on the run but her husband, Julius Okware was arrested and detained in Kumi police station.
