A group of investors in Uganda (Chinese and Indians) met with Museveni about 4yrs ago. He asked them why they keep bringing their own people into Uganda to work when they can just hire Ugandan graduates.
The investors replied “Ugandan graduates need too much babysitting”.

What does it mean to babysit? It means to hand hold. One cannot work on their own. They constantly need guidance. Even for things they could easily do themselves. The person is always asking the boss to check or approve. What the fuck happens if that boss should be sick or die?
The boss is out so the employees will not work? Because they are brainless? Or because they are too lazy to think on their own? Or because they lack the basic common sense to determine what has to be done? If you know our business why do you just not do your part?
So, basically, this is why people who are not Ugandans refuse to hire Ugandans or if they do hire Ugandans, they fire them a short time later. We cannot go through life waking up every morning wondering what the other employee needs or how to organise each employees day. There are basic requirements for your job. Do the damn job and only ask me if you have lost access to the files or the system or you lost your key to your office or your computer broke down or some shit like that.
AND even then, if you lost your access, do you not contact the IT guy or help desk to reset your password? If you lost your key to the office, do you not ask the gateman or secretary to get you another key or the maintenance guy to cut you another key? Seriously? You can’t even talk to your own fellow colleagues, people you work with, to solve some basic problems and you are calling me out of the executive meeting I am in because you lost your stupid password? I am livid.
Anyway, just keep in mind that companies and even individual employers prefer people who take initiative. So, always, please ask yourself. “What is my current problem?” Can I solve it myself? Is there someone in my team or group members who can help me to solve this problem? Can I ask them? Should I really contact the boss? Is this the top priority for my boss? Let me try to solve this problem myself or with the help of my colleagues and then Martha will be happy. Otherwise she is gonna fire you and hire someone else. This is not a joke. Things are tough these days and money is tight so everyone is looking for a way to get rid of employees. Why let a good crisis go to waste? Corona is the Equalizer.
I have this friend in Uganda. One time, at lunch time, Joseph used to say “hang on, I have to answer the phone”. WHY? Because my clients in Europe are calling and for us it is lunch time. SO — you mean all your employees go for lunch at the same time? He said yes. Holly shit!!! What the fuck? Who even does that? Can’t any of the employees realise that they should stagger lunch breaks and not all go out together? AND you wonder why your businesses go out of business. Silly just.

[11:43 a.m., 2021-03-17] Martha Leah Nangalama: You see, me, I planned for my children. They have never known unemployment? Why? Because as soon as they got their degrees, they just went on to manage their wealth. THEREFORE (we must always have a Therefore), parents should plan for their kids.
