UGANDA: UPDF battle tank catches fire in Mityana

KAMPALA (@UG_EDGE) – A trailer carrying a Uganda People’s Defence Force [UPDF] battle tank has Saturday evening caught fire on Mityana road.
According to the report, the tank was reportedly being transported to a military barracks in Mubende district. Army spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, told edge.ug there are no casualties.
The battle tank[/caption] “The situation has been contained,” Karemire said. Asked whether there were any damages owing to oozing smoke and fire at the scene, Karemire replied: “Not at all.” Karemire did not divulge any more details about the incident.

Earlier incidents In September 2017, a senior UPDF officer attached to Nakasongola Air Defence Unit, Col David Katorogo, died in an accident at Kagavu village on the Mityana -Mubende Highway. His wife, Ms Beatrice Asimwe, his unidentified son, and Mr Masin Guma, the bodyguard sustained serious injuries.

In 2014, a US plane made an emergency landing along Mityana road. A week later, a UPDF chopper also crash-landed at Kiwawu on Mityana Road. In 2013, a UPDF soldier Pte. Hamuza Kabagambe, 30, was tied to a tree and burnt to death.
