UGANDA: Uganda’s Cheptegei wins 2nd gold medal at Commonwealth games
Ugandan marathoner Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei wins 2nd gold medal after completing the men’s 10000m at the Commonwealth games in Australia.
Days ago, he won gold after finishing first in the 5000m race.
He also set a Commonwealth Games record of 27:19.62.
Cheptegei is now walking in the footsteps of another great Ugandan Moses Ndiema Kipsiro who achieved a similar feat in 2010 at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games.
Kipsiro was the first man in more than 70 years to win both the 5,000 and 10,000m races at the Commonwealth Games.
Cheptegei’s win has made him the second man to win gold in both races.
He is most notable as a silver medallist in the 10,000 metres at the 2017 World Championships in London.
He also competed in the 10,000 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing finishing ninth.
He ran at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres, finishing eight and sixth respectively.
Cheptegei was the 5000 m champion at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
