UGANDA: Museveni & regime have succeeded in breaking our spirits
Published January 20, 2016
They have taken away everything except the bare minimum.
Instilled fear in everyone.
Ensured no one trusts anyone even within a family.
Killed all hope and left people in despair.
Those who manage are in a lethargic state. Where one even has no energy to get out of bed.
People have lost a love of life. A love to live life fully. Truly, taking away any hope for a sunny tomorrow is the worst crime to commit on young people and even the elders.
One time when I was in Mbale I had to go to UCB with Mzee. While we were walking on Republic Street I asked him why people do not sweep in front of their shops anymore or even wash the windows of their shops. His reply “despair. Nothing to look forward to”.
So I learned that breaking the human spirit is tantamount to shooting the person dead. The latter even being more preferred because it is quick.
We need to do a lot of work to repair the broken spirits of all of us. A broken spirit takes a lot of care, compassion, kindness and loving to bring that spirit back to what it used to be and watch the person fly again. Never break people’s spirits.
