UGANDA: Minister wants Ghetto Kids rewarded for marketing country
KAMPALA (@UG_EDGE) – Tourism minister Godfrey Kiwanda has suggested that Uganda rewards Triplets Ghetto Kids for marketing the country abroad.
Hon Kwanda was on Monday addressing press on the launch of Ekkula Pearl of Africa Awards at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
“I bring you greetings from the Ministry and welcome you to embrace the Ekkula Awards 2018 of Pearl of Africa,” he said, citing other many helpful activities that have increased the number of tourists in Uganda.
Among those is Tulambule, Nyege Nyege Festival etc. He said there are many people that have promoted the image of Uganda.
“The Ghetto Kids didn’t know that they’d put Uganda on a world map but such people need to be rewarded. It’s by such that motivates people to do good.”
According to Kiwanda, at the moment, Uganda is one of the best tourist destinations in the whole world.
“This didn’t come by accident. A tourist can’t come to Uganda and be bored. For the same reason of promoting our tourism sector therefore, we shall have the Ekkula Awards 2018 at Pearl of Africa hotel on 29th March, 2018.” He said the ministry is forging more ways to promote this industry.
Ghetto kids to be rewarded
Last year, Triplets Ghetto Kids rejected Shs500,000 to perform at Joseph Masembe’s Green Festival.
Dauda Kavuma, the dancer group’s manager, said the kids who have been in US were each being paid Shs3m per show they performed at.
Triplets Ghetto Kids became famous for the Sitya loss hit song in which they feature with Eddy Kenzo, the first Ugandan singer to win a BET Award.
The group is led by their manager ‘Teacher’ alongside Eddy Jambole, and Sera Chyna Kavuma.
They are; Patricia, Ashley, Ada, Kokode, Fred, Isaac, Kokode, Ronnie and Man King.
The kids were even booked to perform live at the 2018 American Grammy awards.
They hit international fame when they appeared in the music video with Moroccan US-based rapper, French Montana and Swae Lee.
The group of phenomenal young boys and girls have risen to stardom and less than a month after they performed at the BET Awards in America.
They were contacted to appear in a Nickelodeon cartoon series titled ‘Lazy Town’, The Ellen DeGeneres show and even visited Universal Pictures, a film production company in Hollywood.
