UGANDA: Court refuses to call Kadaga, summons Gen Muhoozi for Age Limit
KAMPALA (@UG_EDGE) – The Constitutional Court on Monday declined a request to summon the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in a ruling read by Justice Kenneth Kakuru.
Court, however, granted an application to summon Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige, Sergeant at arms Ahmed Kagoye and a host of other government officials.
Among the summoned officials are; Secretary to the Treasury Keith Muhakanizi, and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi, who will be cross-examined over events leading to the passing of the age limit bill last year.
Petitioners in the matter include; Uganda Law Society, six opposition MPs led by Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Winfred Kiiza, Male Mabirizi, former presidential candidate Abed Bwanika, and another citizen, Prosper Businge.
The petitioners in the matter want to cross-examine the said officials for the role they played in the debating and passing of the controversial age limit Bill.
Kadaga is accused of presiding over a process that saw MPs fighting in the house while sharply divided over the life presidency.
The Clerk to Parliament Kibirige will also answer questions in that regard.
Gen Muhoozi is accused of allowing Special Forces Command [SFC] soldiers to raid parliament and beat up members.
Muhakanizi, on the other hand, is accused of endorsing the Certificate of Financial Implication to support a private members Bill. AUTO – GENERATED; Published (Halifax Canada Time AST) on: April 09, 2018 at 02:44PM
