Besigye said Tumukunde should concentrate on his private work after he was “hounded out of the ruling party cabinet.”
Speaking during campaigns for the FDC candidate Ms Betty Muzanira at Nyakisoroza Primary School playground in Nyakishenyi Sub county on Wednesday, Dr Besigye said Gen. Tumukunde should now retire and do his own things to spare his repute other than following a system that is ‘rotten.
“My friend Tumukunde, they had helped him and dismissed him, but now they have told me he is moving in banana plantations at night following them. If it’s true that he is there trying to move right and left with money at night he would have truly disappointed me,” said Dr Besigye.
He added, “He should leave it completely and accept they have dismissed him. He should accept the dismissal and go to work on his own things so that he gets himself repute of humanity.”
Responding to voters’ concerns that they were being intimidated especially by soldiers and other security agencies, Dr Besigye told them to stand firm, reminding them that even the likes of Gen. Kale Kayihura (former power Inspector General of Police) did that but they now no longer have that power.
“I want to tell you, don’t fear all those (threatening you). Before I left the army they saluted me, because I was above them, they will even still salute me now because I am above them. I want to advise them; those who still can listen; leave things of following a rotten government and working for it to intimidate Ugandans,” said Dr Besigye.
We could not reach Gen. Tumukunde to respond to Dr Besigye’s remarks as he did not pick our repeated calls and texted messages.
