UGANDA, MBALE (@UG_EDGE) – The constitutional court sitting in Mbale has summoned Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze for cross examination as age limit petition proceedings continue.

Court wants Nambooze to explain the events that resulted into her hospitalization during the Age limit bill discussions.

Nambooze will take to the witness stand on Tuesday while the state plots to dismiss her affidavit to the effect that she was brutally assaulted on that fateful day.

She returned late last year from India after undergoing a successful back operation.

A document from Manipal Hospitals India says Nambooze underwent a spine surgery posterior spinal decompression and fusion. She has metal implants in her spine.

The legislator was beaten on September 27, 2017 by Special Forces Command [SFC] soldiers in parliament, breaking her back.

She was first admitted at Bugolobi Medical Centre before being flown to India for better treatment.

On Thursday, the Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana together with the Solicitor General Francis Atoke and a team of 18 state attorneys appeared before the five justices of Constitutional court in Mbale to defend the age-limit law.

Rukutana who maintained that that in amending the age limit law, Parliament acted within the law as stated in the 1995 constitution, defended Speaker Rebecca Kadaga for having acted within the law during the entire process of conceptualization as he pointed out that government acted legally in supporting the amendment.
