Minister Opendi detained for stealing baby from a prostitute
KAMPALA (@UG_EDGE) – Police last week arrested state minister of Health for General Duties, Sarah Achieng Opendi, for reportedly stealing a four-month old baby.
The baby in question was fathered by Opendi’s husband, Gideon Onyango, with a prostitute based in Bweyogerere on Jinja road.
Onyango, the Samia -Bugwe North Member of Parliament, started sexual relations with Joan Niwagira, a sex worker and mother of the baby sometime last year.
He was then residing in Mukono while Niwagira worked at Hipos bar in Bweyogerere.
“He promised to marry me incase I became pregnant,” Niwagira told police. When she became pregnant, Onyango ordered her to abort which she refused.
Onyango demanded a DNA test which proved he was the father.
It was about the same time that minister Opendi uncovered the secret and pressured her husband to take the baby from the sex worker and bring it to her.
The legislator then employed the services of police officers who reportedly stole the baby.
The prostitute sought the help of Bweyogerere Police Station where she reported a case of kidnap and child neglect on file vide SD03/07/12/2017.
Last Thursday, police arrested Hon Onyango and detained him at Bweyogerere Police Station. When the minister tried to rescue him, she was also detained.
The couple agreed to return the baby and were later released from police cells.
