DAILY NATION – Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has been given a one-month notice to vacate an office allocated him at the Baringo County headquarters as the assembly moves to create space for other teams.
Joseph Koech, the assembly clerk, issued the notice on Tuesday indicating that it was a decision made by the County Assembly Service Board.
Mr Moi has been occupying the office labelled ‘Senator Liaison office’ since 2013.
In the notice the assembly clerk said that the office should be moved out of the assembly due to the limited space following on-going construction works.
“I write to convey the assembly service board decision that you have been served with the above notice. This is due to the ongoing construction within the assembly and due to the limited space available.
“The contractors would like to demolish the current speaker’s office and thus the reason for the notice,” read part of the letter.
Two months ago, MCAs allied to the Jubilee party had demanded the office to be moved on claims that it was dormant.
Led by the Majority Chief Whip Reuben Chepsongol they said the senator had seldom used the office.
“Some of our committees at the assembly lack offices and the senator’s office, which has been at the assembly since 2013 is dormant and does not have a secretary to say the least. We do not see the reason why we should lack offices yet the one designated to the senator is dormant,” said Mr Chepsongol.
Nominated MCA Francis Kibai said then that there was money allocated to senators by the Parliamentary Service Commission to rent offices and he that Mr Moi should rent this elsewhere.
Kanu MCAs have, however, opposed the relocation of Mr Moi’s office saying it was politically motivated.
Earlier this year, there was a scuffle at the precincts of the county assembly after the Jubilee ward representatives clashed with Kanu counterparts who vowed to oppose any attempt to kick out Mr Moi.
Kanu nominated MCA Betty Birchoko said that the move by the Jubilee MCAs was well choreographed to intimidate Senator Moi.
“We know that the sideshows by the Jubilee ward representatives is meant to intimidate the Senator,” said Ms Birchoko. —— AUTO – GENERATED; Published (Halifax Canada Time AST) on: May 30, 2018 at 11:31AM
