ADDIS ABABA (ANADOLU AGENCY) – Ethiopia dismissed or suspended a dozen security personnel for failing to prevent violence that raged last week in the western region of Benishangul Gumuz.

Ethnic violence in the region 700 kilometer (434.96 miles) west of capital Addis Ababa killed nine people and injured more than 50.

Violence reportedly began when members of the Berta ethnic group went out on the streets brandishing clubs and machetes threatening ethnic Amhara and Oromo people in regional capital Assosa.

“The situation in the region is now stable and the suspects have been dismissed or suspended,” said Benishangul Regional State chief Shazele Hassan as quoted by state TV.

Last month, a rally in Addis Ababa was hit by a bomb killing two people and injuring more than 150. —— AUTO – GENERATED; Published (Halifax Canada Time AST) on: July 03, 2018 at 12:43PM
