Egyptian football fans are raising eyebrows ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Russia, with many choosing to sport a haircut of Liverpool star Mo Salah’s face.
Walid Makram, a barber who specialises in trimming hair into celebrities faces, said Salah’s image is all the rage, on a visit to his barber’s in the Upper Egypt province of Minya on Wednesday.
“The first time I made a haircut of Salah was the day after Egypt qualified to the World Cup,”said Makaram.
Since then, brilliant form of the 25-year-old, who has dazzled the world after topping the goal scoring chart in the English Premier League, has attracted a lot of attention.
Many young fans are requesting the haircut, ahead of the ‘Pharaohs’ first World Cup appearance in 28 years.
As for the artistic hairdressing process, the back of the head is first marked with white chalk, before clippers, scissors and a cut-throat razor blade make Salah come alive. The drawings can take up to two hours to be perfected.
One client, Ayman Mohamed, seemed happy with the end result. “People’s reaction was incredible. Many of them thought it is a painting or a tattoo, but they get dazed when they touch my hair,” he said.
