UGANDA: Unemployed youth are lazy
Every time Uganda’s First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni (Matama) addresses media about Uganda, we cringe. She says some things that really infruriate. Yet in some of her statements, she speaks truth.
Recently, she said “Unemployed youth are lazy”. That was arrogant and condescending. Yet if you analyze what she said, she was right to some extent.
I share jobs, business ideas, scholarships and much advice for Uganda yet most of the unemployed youth do not read. The ones who read will say:
“You shared a scholarship link the other day. I did not note it. Please give it to me”. And the same will be for jobs, business ideas.
If you youth lack basic common sense, then you should not complain about Museveni.
The minute you see a post with something of interest, email it to yourself so that you can refer to it when ready. Better still, buy an exercise book and a pen. Create sections in that book under headings like “Scholarship”, “Jobs”, “Business”, Immigration Visas.
Every time you see a post relating to each of those things, write in your book the link that was shared. You can also just book mark the links.
Today, a young friend in Kampala tells me that he read the post on how to set up Linkedin but cannot locate it and he is trying to set up his account. I told the kid “Just Google it”.
For crying out loud, why are we raising and educating such lazy kids? We are the enablers. Stop over spoon feeding them.
