Details of the victims are still scanty.
Through their Twitter handle, Uganda Red Cross said: “A swarm of bees has this (Wednesday) afternoon attacked Umeme Ltd staff who were on official duty in Nsangi. One has died and two have been rescued and referred by our emergency response team. Very unfortunate incident.”
However, when contacted, Umeme media manager, Mr Stephen Illungole confirmed the incident but said the victims were not their employees.
“It a very unfortunate incident that someone lost their life. However, I have crosschecked with our area maintenance and engineering manager and established that all members of our maintenance team are safe. Our head of safety in the area also says all our staff are safe but we shall continue to investigate the identities of the victims. We commiserate with the family of the deceased and wish the survivors quick recovery,” Mr Illungole said.
