UGANDA: Children learn when shown, not just reading

Canada has this program where once a year, people take kids to work. You can take your own to your job or take a child from the community.
What I found interesting about this program is none of my kids wanted to come to work with me.  They hate my job.
Rebecca had a day booked with a medical doctor, found out it was gonna be all needles and she backed out.  She then found out that our priest, Fr. Richard McConnel from the Anglish Parish of Shediac was gonna take her all day because his job is super easy.
At the end of the day, kid says “I think being a priest is the hardest job EVER. We had to visit the people living with need in their homes.  We had to go to the hospitals and visit the sick.  We then returned to the church office and I had to do the schedule for the Parish daycare.  It was the hardest day of my life.  Respect Priests because it is a lot of work.”
Our priest had not planned anything for that day for our kid.  He just took her everywhere with him the entire day.  I think this was the best way for Becky to learn about priest work.  It is emotional, spiritual, intellectual and pyschological work.
At one point, they visisted a parishoner who was in hospital awaiting chemo and she was lost for what she could say to that gentleman.  AND she stated “I have no idea what I can say to console you”. He replied “your presence is enough”.
YOUR PRESENCE IS ENOUGH is actually what most people need when sick, have lost a close one or are grieving.  Not “Get over it, this too shall pass”.

Take Our Kids to Work Day, taking place on Wednesday, November 6th, 2019, is an annual event where students step into their future for a day and get a glimpse into the working world. The day involves students in Grade 9, Senior 1 (Manitoba) and Secondary III (Québec) spending the day in the workplace of a parent, relative, friend or volunteer host, where they experience and learn about the world of work
