UGANDA: Always give credit to original authors, photographers – @fuddish
|Bobi Wine aka Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi. Photo credit Noy Frederic|
This is a magnificent photo of Bobi Wine. Many of us have been using this photo since Bobi got named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most upcoming influential leaders.
Except, most of us forgot to mention the photographer. His name is Noy Frederic and his Twitter handle is @fuddish. I suggest that whoever uses this photo without an App, indicates “Photo by Noy Frederic @fuddish”.
Failing that, it is plagiarism. I will write about auto social media via Apps next week. I am still researching how we can force Apps to post the caption on images.
Some of my long time followers know how we must give credit and not plagiarize. Some of you remember how Ugandans used to plagiarize my stories. Word by word and put their name. It hurt a lot. It was not only Sarah Nalukenge. A news site in Uganda used to take all my daily “Market Summary” reports and post them as their own. Like seriously? No one in Uganda was analyzing markets except MLN.
Worse, the kids from NRM Poor Youth would take my Politics & Security reports and post them thus: “By Poor Youth’. There was also a Mupingizi who used to take my stories and send them to a news site I will not mention. He would get paid per article.
In this age of technology, the original author will land on his or her work on the Internet.
Uganda needs more education. Kids cannot even cite their work and no one teaches them about plagiarism. In most non shithole countries, a detection of plagiarism in your essay earns you a suspension from the course, program or school.
