Kyambogo University announced that they would no longer admit students, seeking to study for an undergraduate diploma or certificate, as had been the case in the past. Two years ago, Makerere University made the same decision. It appears that the move has obtained the support of the education ministry, with public universities encouraged to concentrate on research and knowledge generation.
