Government looks to tame electronic payments

By the start of 2021, Bank of Uganda could tighten regulations in the digital and electronic transaction space, an attempt to catch up with sector developments by the regulator. Dr Michael Ating Ego, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Uganda, cites the close to 20% cumulative growth in Electronic transactions more so mobile money transactions estimated at nearly 80 Trillion shillings in the ended financial year June 2020 as a catalyst.
