LITERATURE: Reading the classics
In high school at UWC Lester B Peason College (pearsoncollege.ca), I mouthed off my English /Lit teacher.
But she had it coming. She told us to read T.S. Elliott, Margaret Atwood, James Joyce, Nietsche..nabalala nabalala.
Come on, I grew up on Chinua Achebe, Ngugi wa Thionga, A RIVER RUNS BETWEEN.
This woman in charge of ky future is telling me to read “silly” like Atwood, Henry David Thoreau, Emmerson.
It is many years that I realized why Eileen Dombrowski made us read classics from other continents. Actually, Eileen is proficient in African literature.
She likely does not remember how a few kids demanded to only read African Literature!!
Thanks Eileen. It came as a shock when my Canada born kids chose “Things Fall Apart” for their Lit book reports.
Theo Dombroswki was teaching us Philosophy, music dance, etc
.. there was no where to run.
